The proportion of population aged 65 and over (8.4%) increased by 0.4 percentage points year-on-year, and that of population aged 0-14 (11.4%) rose slightly by 0.1 percentage point; meanwhile, the proportion of population aged 15-64 (80.2%) decreased by 0.5 percentage points.
A total of 7,360 live births were delivered in 2014, an increase of 789 year-on-year, the highest number since 1989 (7,568). The gender ratio of the newborn stood at 109.7, corresponding to 109.7 male babies per 100 female babies. Mortality totalled 1,939 in 2014, an increase of 19 year-on-year; the top three underlying causes of death were Neoplasms (679), Diseases of the Circulatory System (467) and Diseases of the Respiratory System (325).
In 2014, there were 5,889 Chinese immigrants, up significantly by 2,551 year-on-year; individuals granted right of abode totalled 2,278, down by 213. Meanwhile, a total of 1,409 illegal Chinese immigrants were repatriated to the Mainland, an increase of 74 year-on-year. Non-resident workers totalled 170,346 at end-2014, an increase of 32,508 (23.6%) year-on-year.
In 2014, marriage registration totalled 4,085 cases, down by 68 year-on-year; a total of 1,308 divorce cases were recorded, an increase of 136 year-on-year.
