Information from the Statistics and Census Service indicated that the number of visitor and non-resident arrivals totalled 2,457,149 in September 2010. Total visitor arrivals rose by 8.9% year-on-year to 1,839,375. Same-day visitors (970,605) accounted for 52.8% of the total visitor arrivals, with 481,269 coming from Mainland China.
Analyzed by place of residence, visitors from Mainland China increased by 1.9% year-on-year to 894,807 (48.6% of the total), with 341,036 travelling to Macao under the Individual Visit Scheme, down by 3.8% from September 2009. Visitors from Hong Kong (598,356); Taiwan, China (101,698); and Indonesia (34,087) grew by 21.5%, 5.5% and 13.3% respectively, while those from Japan (40,547) decreased by 9.4%.
Total visitor arrivals reached 18,588,579 in the first three quarters of 2010, up by 17.1% year-on-year. The majority of visitors were from Mainland China (9,807,808); Hong Kong (5,607,916); Taiwan, China (991,881); and Japan (311,921). Same-day visitors accounted for 52.0% of the total visitor arrivals, at 9,667,038 in the first nine months of 2010.
Analyzed by mode of transport, visitor arrivals by sea totalled 7,654,051 in the first nine months of 2010, an increase of 20.8% year-on-year. Visitors arriving at the Outer Harbour increased by 7.8% to 4,746,884, with the majority coming from Hong Kong (52.6%) and Mainland China (23.2%); meanwhile, those arriving at the Provisional Ferry Terminal in Taipa surged by 53.6% to 2,648,012.
Visitor arrivals by land rose by 15.8% year-on-year to 9,709,661 in the first three quarters of 2010; those arriving through the Border Gate totalled 8,885,203 and the majority were visitors from Mainland China (78.8%) and Hong Kong (14.1%).
Visitor arrivals by air increased by 5.7% year-on-year to 1,224,867 in the first nine months of 2010. Visitors arriving at the Macao International Airport went up by 6.5% to 1,209,372, with the majority coming from Taiwan, China (38.1%); Mainland China (30.6%); and Malaysia (7.1%).
