The Chief Executive, Mr Chui Sai On, had expressed his condolences to the Portuguese people over the tragedy caused by floods on Madeira island.

In a letter to the Prime Minister of Portugal, Mr José Sócrates, on Monday, Mr Chui expressed his heartfelt compassion to the people in the time of sadness.

He wished them speedy and smooth rescue operations in the affected areas.
