The Chief Executive, Mr Chui Sai On, met the Roman Catholic Bishop of Macao, José Lai, at Government Headquarters today.

Bishop Lai gave Mr Chui the message offered by Pope Benedict XVI in celebration of the World Day of Peace on 1 January 2010, and expressed his best wishes for progress and harmony in society and a smooth administration for the new government.

Mr Chui exchanged views with Bishop Lai on education in Macao, as the Catholic Church operates a large number of schools and makes a significant contribution in nurturing Macao’s young talent.

The Chief Executive said that the Government would continue to support the operations of Catholic schools.
