The Institute For Tourism Studies Career Day 2009 was held on 16 April at the Inspiration Building. The exhibition aimed to provide graduating students more information on the employment trends in the tourism and hospitality industries, thus, increasing their chance of success in job hunting. Organisations from different sectors were invited to the exhibition and four career talks were delivered.
Seven organisations from the tourism and hospitality industries joined the exhibition. These included Global-Dining Macau Limited, Holiday Inn Macau, L’Arc New World Hotel Macau, Lisboa Hotels Complex, Pizza Hut, Viva Macau Ltd. and Wynn Resorts (Macau). Representatives from the organisations provided the students information about job openings in their companies and distributed application forms to those who were interested. The graduates-to-be were enthusiastic about the exhibition, especially in attending the career talks. Questions regarding employment trends and employers’ expectation were raised and discussed in the talks.
The employment rate of IFT graduates is always satisfactory. In April 2008, a graduates’ employment survey, targeting the Bachelor and Diploma and Certificate programme graduates of 2006/07, were launched. According to the results of the survey, 92.9% got employment and 79% got placements in the tourism and hospitality sector. The Career Day 2009 aimed to be the platform of communication between students and employers. It allowed the graduating students to have a better view of the job market and maximised the chance of success in their career path.
