2nd MIECF to be held in early April

Make Use of the Platform Advantages and Promoting Environmental Industry

The 2009 Macao International Environmental Co-operation Forum & Exhibition (2009 MIECF), hosted by the Government of the Macao Special Administrative Region, will be held at the Venetian® Macao-Resort-Hotel from 2 to 4 April 2009.

The theme of 2009 MIECF is A Global Green Gathering, Environment-Business-Connection to honour the green spirit and promote ecological responsibility and social commitment. The event will encourage local and international co-operation in sharing latest green technology and projects, as well as creating more business opportunities for different enterprises while solving the crucial global environmental issues.

By organising major forums, themed exhibitions and business-matching activities, the 3-day event will create a communication platform for enterprises and assist them in seeking co-operation opportunities. It is hoped that it will reach the ultimate goal of bringing more constructive impacts through the application of environmental technology and contribute to the green future of Mainland China and beyond, in particular, contribute to the strengthening of regional environmental business opportunities

The Chief Executive of the Macao SAR, senior officials of China and international environmental industry and related sector, as well as international environmental experts will give thematic speeches at the Opening Ceremony. Mr. Qin Dahe, Expert of the China Meteorological Administration, will give a keynote report on Understanding the Effect on the Climate Changes, Consequences and Counter-measures.

The National Development and Reform Commission of the People's Republic of China (NDRC) has agreed to be the Special Supporting Organisation of the event while the Ministry of Environmental Protection of the People’s Republic of China has also be invited. Various Mainland provincial and regional environmental departments, business organisations, companies and tertiary education institutions have agreed to be the supporting organisations of the event which will be a benefit to assist enterprises to better understand Mainland markets in different regions.

General Public and Industries Participates in MIECF to Acquire Latest Environmental Technology

2009 MIECF will hold a 3-day Green Showcase which covers a total exhibition area of more than 8,000 square metres with over 180 exhibitors. The exhibition will comprise of various themed exhibition areas/pavilions including EU Pavilion, Macao Pavilion, Pan-PRD Provinces/Regions Pavilion etc. Other potential exhibitors and participating countries and regions include Brazil, Canada, Finland, Jilin Province, Portugal, the United States and Zhuhai City. The exhibition will showcase latest products/services in local and international environmental industry. The exhibition will be open to public on 4 April.

Symposiums Held Concurrently to Focus on Popular Environmental Issues

To be in line with the theme of this year’s MIECF, two symposiums namely the Energy Saving, Emission Reductions and Carbon Trading Symposium and the Natural Disaster Management Symposium will be held in the morning of 3 April by the Environment Council. Officials of the responsible government departments, experts and academics from the overseas, EU and Mainland have been invited to give speeches at the symposiums.

At the Energy Saving, Emission Reductions and Carbon Trading Symposium, attending officials will discuss the major environmental issues of the 21st Century including energy saving, emission reduction and the development of carbon trading to tackle global warming as well as the sustainable development of the human society. The Natural Disaster Management Symposium will invite experts and academics to share their experience and insights in risks managements and their works in prevention of natural disaster.

The event will play a positive role in promoting the green spirit and educating the next generation the importance of environmental protection and preserving natural resources on earth. 2009 MIECF will also allow stakeholders and academics to acquire knowledge of the latest environmental technology which will inspire the study and innovation of local green technology. Other than the themed exhibition and symposiums, a business-matching area will also be set up as another focus of this year’s MIECF in a scale and area coverage larger than that of the previous year.

Green Business Co-operation Day To Assist Enterprises to Seek Business Opportunities and Enhance Production Effectiveness

To further strengthen enterprises’ business co-operation in the area of environmental protection, the first day of 2009 MIECF has been designated as the Green Business Co-operation Day (the Green Business Day) by the Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM). The Green Business Day aims at assisting enterprises to conduct business co-operation negotiations, explore business opportunities and seek co-operation partners, and enhance production effectiveness by utilising environmental technology.

The Green Business Day is co-organised by IPIM and the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) and various international chambers of commerce, with the theme as the Gathering Unlimited Green Business Opportunities. The objective of the Green Business Day is to assist enterprises to seize business opportunities in environmental co-operation and create mutually beneficial business relations. At the Green Business Co-operation and Finance Symposium, representatives from financial and environmental enterprises and organisations in various regions will conduct detail discussion on the current status and prospects of the financing of environmental projects. Representatives from chambers of commerce and enterprises in the Mainland and Europe attending the Enterprises Green Business Forum will discuss the issue of environmental co-operation between enterprises.

A Wide-ranging Event with Unlimited Business Opportunities

IIPIM has currently collected over 300 environmental projects involving sewage treatment, solid waste recycling and treatment, production of renewable energy, air purifying technology, solar energy and wind energy, originating from Brazil, Canada, Hong Kong, Mainland China, Taiwan and the United Kingdom etc. Enterprises will be better acquainted with the application and development of environmental products through the displays and introduction made by experts and exhibitors, and acquire more information on energy-saving and cost-effective environmental production systems and operations.

Green Matching To Create Business Opportunities For Brands

To further assist enterprises to grasp business opportunities in environmental industry, a Green Matching activity will be held during 2009 MIECF to provide business-matching service for environmental products/services, assist Mainland and overseas business visitors to provide/seek business partners and market their products/services, exploring and seeking business opportunities in environmental industry through interactive activities. Green Matching will include brand networking, business matching services and business facilitation network which will assist Mainland and global businesses, particularly enterprises in Southern China and EU countries to establish potential partnership and join forces in developing conservation projects.
