Information from the Statistics and Census Service indicated that in the third quarter of 2008, declining crude oil prices in the international market and Government’s exemption of consumption tax on fuels lowered the list price of most type of fuels, of which the average price of Gasoline import rose slightly by 0.2%, but the list price of Unleaded Gasoline dropped by 13.1% quarter-to-quarter. Imports and consumption of Gasoline totalled 16.23 million litres and 16.70 million litres, up by 2.6% and 6.9% respectively over the previous quarter.
Gross available supply of Electricity increased by 21.6% quarter-to-quarter that was attributable to the substantial rise of electricity import, by 41.1% to 743 million kWh, bringing the relative importance of Electricity import to the gross available supply surged from 59.0% in the preceding quarter to 68.4%. Meanwhile, consumption of Electricity recorded an increase of 17.6%.
Imports of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) rose by 6.0% over the second quarter to 9,643 tonnes, but the respective consumption declined by 11.6% quarter-to-quarter to 8,392 tonnes. The average price of LPG import decreased by 1.5% quarter-to-quarter, while the list price of Bottled LPG and Centralised LPG going up by 1.4% and 1.3% respectively.
Imports and consumption of Gas Oil & Diesel amounted to 28.67 million litres and 37.89 million litres, down by 34.8% and 7.2% respectively from the second quarter. The list price of different types of Gas Oil & Diesel lowered by 3.8% to 5.0% quarter-to-quarter, while the average price of import registered an increase of 14.7%.
Imports and consumption of Natural Gas totalled 23.75 million and 23.72 million cubic metres, down by 10.9% and 10.4% respectively over the previous quarter.
