Building of third Macao-Taipa Bridge contracted

The SAR Government today (5 September) officially contracted CTMB Joint Venture for the design and construction of the third Macao-Taipa Bridge.

The Secretary for Transport and Public Works, Ao Man Long, signed the contract on behalf of the SAR Government while the Managing Director of Chon Tit Construction/; Chen Dongsheng, represented the joint venture contractor.

The third Macao-Taipa Bridge, with six lanes and a total length of 1.72 km, would be a two-level structure with the lower level enclosed for traffic during typhoons and extreme weather conditions. The bridge was also designed to accommodate the Light Railway System.

The cost of the bridge, a total of 560 million patacas, would be paid in three years from 2002 to 2004.
