Macao Prison strives to build a clean working area

Macao Prison stressed today (6 May) in a press release that any unlawful acts by prison officers would not be tolerate.

Responding to the detention of two wardens by the Commission Against Corruption of Macao (CCAC) during a raid on the detention wards in the San Januario Hospital earlier this month, the prison made a press release today, saying that the action of the CCAC would be supported.

According to a CCAC press release, the raid was commenced according to report on the presence of unauthorized individuals and other restricted items such as cellular phone in the detention ward where a prisoner was hospitalized for a long of time.

The raid results in seizure of restricted items such as VCDs, DVDs, Minidisc player and DVD players. Two wardens posted in the detention ward were detained and later charged with abuse of authority.

A retired police officer was also detained by the CCAC during the raid, he was found in the ward with no permission, armed with a handgun.

Four other wardens were later detained and charged, according to the CCAC press release.

According to the Macao Prison press release, a new detention ward, which would ensure the confinement and restriction on hospitalized prisoners, is now under construction and would be completed soon.
