President Jiang Zemin said today that he was confident that Chief Executive Edmund Ho Haw Wah and the Macau SAR Government was capable of managing the issue of the liberalization of the gaming industry.
Accompanied by Vice Premier Qian Qichen and Director of Hong Kong and Macau Affairs Office of the State Council, Liao Hui, President Jiang received the Chief Executive at Zhongnanhai, who is attending the annual plenum of the National People's Congress (NPC).
After the meeting, Mr. Ho conveyed the greeting expressed by President Jiang to the residents of Macau.
President Jiang was quoted as saying that he encouraged the Macau SAR government to join force with the all walks of life in the SAR to contribute to the implementation of "One Country Two System".
Regarding the liberalization of the gaming industry, Mr. Ho pointed out that the goals of liberalizing the gaming franchise were to manage the industry in a better mode and thus to enable its healthier development.
Mr. Ho stressed that the liberalization of gaming industry was an internal affair of the MSAR, adding the central government would give its full support to the policy but would not interfere in it.
Meanwhile, he also said location for the SAR government's Beijing representative office had been selected and the office was under decoration, adding that the office would be commenced probably in the middle of this year.
