President Jiang Zemin received today (December 21) Mainalnd Chinese officials posted in Macau, principle officials of the SAR Government officials and local community leaders.
When receiving the Mainland officials at the Xin Zhu Residence, President Jiang said that the Central Government departments posted in Macau which represented the Central Government, should firmly abide the Basic Law and local laws and support the Chief Executive as well.
He also encouraged representatives of mainland enterprises incorporated in Macau to play their role in supporting the economy development of Macau, stressing they should not involve in the gaming industry in any kind of ways and forms.
He pointed out that the stationing of the Garrison Troops of the People's Liberation Army in Macau SAR was helpful to the stabilization of the public order in the territory, adding the Macau Garrison Troops should always understand their role when carrying out their duty of defence.
Later in the morning, President Jiang received principal officials, members of Executive Council, legislators of the Macau SAR and local community leaders at the Tourist Activities Centre.
President Jiang also encouraged the SAR Government, saying that the entire situation in Macau, including the security and economy performance had been improved greatly in the past year and the gaming industry exclusively held by Macau, all these had proved that the principle of "one Country, two systems" was a right idea.
He praised that performce of the SAR Government over the past year, pointing out this relyed on the support and cooperation of all walks of live of Macau.
The sessions were later completed with a group photo attended by 100 people.
Vice Premier, Qian Qichen, Commissioner of the Office of Commissioner of the Foreign Affairs Ministry in the MSAR, Yuan Tao/; Director of the General Political Department of the PLA, Member of the PRC Central Military Commission, Mr. Yu Yongbo/; Director of General Office of the CPC Central Committee, Mr. Wang Gang/; Director of the Hong Kong and Macau Affairs Office, State Council, Mr. Liao Hui also accompanied President Jiang during the meetings and photo session.
