The Commerce and Investment Promotion Institute (“IPIM”) of the Macao Special Administrative Region organised a delegation of representatives from 21 Macao enterprises and commerce associations to attend the “Mutually Beneficial Co-operation and Business Matching Conference Between Hong Kong and Macao and Regions in Western China” in Guang’an City, Sichuan Province from 26 to 29 November. Guided by the Department of Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macao Affairs of the Ministry of Commerce, and the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the State Council, the event aims to facilitate Macao enterprises in deeply integrating into the overall national development, enhancing collaboration between Hong Kong and Macao enterprises and enterprises in western China, and providing opportunities for them to explore the extensive market potential in western China.
Leveraging the Advantages of National Two-way Opening-up
This event focused on elucidating the mainland’s opening-up policy, promoting the economic and trade environment of key regions in western China, and aiding participants in comprehending the nation’s most recent economic strategies and investment prospects. During the meeting, IPIM Director Leong Wa Fong, highlighted that Macao, with a versatile international economic and trade network and extraordinary market advantages, could effectively connect enterprises in western China with the markets of nine Portuguese-speaking countries, fostering two-way development opportunities. At the same time, Macao, relying on its low and simple tax regime and advantageous business environment, has become an ideal platform and an important bridge for enterprises in western China to integrate into the regional economy.
In addition, an on-site inspection was organised for the delegation to visit Guang’an City’s rural revitalisation base and local industrial parks, facilitating Macao enterprises in learning the local economic landscape and market demands. This initiative also aims to lay the solid foundation for future collaborations.
Strengthening Economic Co-operation between Macao and Mainland Enterprises
Most members of the Macao delegation considered the business matching activities conducive to the economic and trade co-operation between Macao and regions in western China, creating new development opportunities for enterprises in these two regions. IPIM will fully leverage the national two-way opening-up strategy to facilitate the development of the western China region.
The event not only reinforced economic relations between Macao and the western Chinese region but also aided Macao enterprises in broadening their market reach, injecting new impetus into the appropriate diversification of the local economy.
