Recently, Mr. Wu Chi Wai, a lecturer from the Macao Institute for Tourism Studies (IFTM), has participated in a research project of the General Program by the National Natural Science Foundation of China. The research project, titled "Complex Data Feature Modeling and Forecasting for Tourist Demand: Multiscale Deep Learning Approach," will span four years. The project is led by Professor He Kaijian from the College of Tourism at Hunan Normal University, with IFTM’s lecturer Wu Chu Wai as the co-investigator.

Professor He Kaijian, the project's principal investigator, stated that Lecturer Wu Chi Wai from IFTM played a critical role in project design. Wu's profound understanding of tourism and statistics provided the project with rich experience and professional knowledge. This research project aims to investigate the complex characteristics of tourism demand and develop efficient tourism demand forecasting models using multiscale deep learning modeling theory.

The successful approval and implementation of this research project will help deepen our understanding of the complex characteristics of tourism demand changes and improve the predictive ability and market competitiveness of the tourism industry. Additionally, the research findings of this project can be generalised to other fields, such as oil market forecasting and weather forecasting, with broad prospects for application. Therefore, this project not only improves academic research capabilities but also makes significant contributions to the tourism industry in Macao.

The National Natural Science Foundation of China is a well-known national-level fund that supports the research and development of fundamental and applied sciences. Successfully obtaining a National Natural Science Foundation of China research grant is a challenging task, requiring very competitive research team with extensive experience and strong capabilities in relevant fields. The application process typically involves multiple stages of competition and screening.

Since its establishment, IFTM has been committed to integrating teaching, scientific research, and industry resources to cultivate outstanding tourism industry talents. Participation in this project funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China marks a continued effort by the institute to promote the deep integration of teaching and research and make positive contributions to the development of the tourism industry.

In the future, IFTM will continue to focus on talent cultivation and academic research in the tourism industry, further promote the development of the tourism industry in Macao, and lead the continuous innovation and progress of the tourism industry in Macao.
