Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that a total of 1,537 new companies were incorporated in the fourth quarter of 2020, up by 101 year-on-year. New companies operating in Wholesale & Retail Trade and Business Services totalled 595 and 401 respectively. Total value of registered capital fell by 58.1% year-on-year to MOP142 million. Companies in dissolution totalled 182 in the fourth quarter, and the value of registered capital of these companies amounted to MOP80 million.

In the fourth quarter of 2020, Macao contributed MOP76 million to the capital of newly incorporated companies, accounting for 53.4% of the total. Capital from Hong Kong amounted to MOP34 million. Capital from mainland China totalled MOP29 million, of which 48.9% came from the Mainland cities in the Greater Bay Area. Analysed by combination of shareholders, 1,142 new companies were established solely by Macao shareholders, and 146 were joint ventures between shareholders from Macao and other countries or regions.

For the whole year of 2020, newly incorporated companies totalled 5,695, a decrease of 445 year-on-year; total value of registered capital fell by 85.8% to MOP607 million. Number of companies in dissolution was 685 in 2020, and the value of registered capital of these companies amounted to MOP250 million.

Analysed by size of registered capital, there were 4,487 new companies (78.8% of total) registered with capital under MOP50,000 in 2020, and the corresponding value of capital totalled MOP116 million (19.1% of total). Meanwhile, 52 new companies were registered with capital of MOP1 million or over, and the value of capital amounted to MOP336 million (55.4%).

At the end of 2020, number of registered companies in Macao totalled 76,451.
