Macao has confirmed two new cases of novel coronavirus infection, taking to 10 the tally of such cases recorded in the city.

The ninth case involved a 29-year-old female who is a local resident. According to preliminary investigation, the patient had, on 24 January, stayed for four hours at the house of the person that has been confirmed as the city’s eighth patient with coronavirus infection. The ninth patient had on 25 January developed symptoms including a running nose, cough and fever. Those symptoms later disappeared.

The ninth patient was advised by the Health Bureau on 3 February to take further tests, based on the epidemical investigation of the eighth patient. The 29-year-old subsequently tested positive for the novel coronavirus. She is now in a moderate condition and has been placed in isolation for treatment.

The patient claimed she had not left Macao recently. In view of the fact she had close contact with the eighth confirmed patient, Macao’s team for disease prevention and control has been conducting a follow-up investigation of the 29-year-old’s epidemiological history, and identifying people that might have had close contact with her.

The city’s 10th case of novel coronavirus infection involves a male 59-year-old local resident.

Preliminary investigation showed the male patient had on 25 January made a day visit to Guangzhou, Guangdong Province. On 26 January, he had a running nose, cough and fever. He attended Kiang Wu Hospital for treatment. The patient was transferred in the early morning today to Conde S. Januário Hospital and subsequently tested positive for the coronavirus. He is now in a moderate condition and has been placed in isolation for treatment.

Macao’s team for disease prevention and control has been conducting a follow-up investigation of the 59-year-old’s epidemiological history, and identifying people that might have had close contact with him.
