According to the cooperation agreement between the Macao Consumer Council and Zhuhai Consumer Council and for the implementation of close cooperation between cities in the Greater Bay Area, both Councils completed and announced an annual co-test report.

The first cooperation project is the hygiene and safety test of hand cream, the Macao and Zhuhai Consumer Councils tested 43 samples from both Macao and Zhuhai and all of them passes. Consumers may now access the report and other shopping suggestion on both of the Council’s websites.

The wide choice of brands of hand creams on the market reflects demand of consumers of this kind of product. Hand cream is used directly on the skin, any hazardous substances or bad hygienic condition may affect consumers’ health and safety. The Macao and Zhuhai Consumer Councils co-tested this kind of product to safeguard consumer rights.

According to the quotes national testing standard, contents of colony count, mold and yeast in the 43 samples passed the standard test on hygiene quality of hand creams, no pathogenic bacteria, such as coliform bacteria, staphylococcus aureus nor pseudomonas aeruginosa is found in the test as well.

For the testing of hazardous substances, the 43 samples were tested for their content level of mercury, lead, arsenic, cadmium, methanol, and 1,4-Dioxane, over-injection of hazardous substances of the human body over a long period of time may affect the nervous system, respiratory system, as well as all external and internal organs. No sample is found to exceed the testing standard.

According to product labels, the origins of 20 hand cream samples bought in Macao include China, Japan, Korea, and countries in Europe and America, selling prices ranged from MOP10 to over MOP200. Consumers may check the report on the Council’s website (www.consumer.gov.mo).

Consumers are reminded in the test report to check the packages of hand cream products, including the names, ingredients, and details of manufacturers, consumers should also pay attention to any allergic reaction after using the product, check the expiry date and never purchase any opened product to avoid contamination and breeding of bacteria.
