The Tourism Federation of Cities in Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao Bay Area (referred to as the “Federation”) held its first Members’ Assembly in Hengqin, Zhuhai of Guangdong Province today (11 December). The Federation approved the Articles of the Tourism Federation of Cities in Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao Bay Area along with an agreement signed during the Members’ Assembly.

Director General of the Department of Affairs on Tourism of Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan of China National Tourism Administration (CNTA), Li Yaying, Director General of Tourism Administration of Guangdong Province, Zeng Yingru, the Commissioner for Tourism of the Tourism Commission of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Cathy Chu, Director of Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO), Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes, and Head of Communication and External Relations Department of MGTO, Kathy Iong, attended the Members’ Assembly together with other personages.

Initiated by Tourism Administration of Guangdong Province, Tourism Commission of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and Macao Government Tourism Office under the guidance of China National Tourism Administration, the Tourism Federation of Cities in Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao Bay Area is a brand-new organization for comprehensive tourism cooperation comprising the tourism authorities of the nine cities of Guangdong Province – Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Zhuhai, Foshan, Huizhou, Dongguan, Zhongshan, Jiangmen and Zhaoqing – as well as the two Special Administrative Regions, Hong Kong and Macao, with the aim to put the “Framework Agreement on Deepening Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Cooperation in the Development of the Bay Area” into implementation and together build a quality living circle ideal for inhabitation, work and travel. The Secretariat of the Federation is set up at Tourism Administration of Guangdong Province, and the first Rotating Chairman of the year is Tourism Administration of Guangzhou Municipality.

Upholding the principle of “concerted development, joint branding and market sharing”, the Federation will promote communication and cooperation among members through resource integration, image promotion, collaborative marketing and other means, as all members join hands to forge a world-class travel destination.

The establishment of the Federation not only will push forward tourism cooperation and interchanges between the three destinations but also will foster their joint branding as one international tourism destination and their forging of a new tourism benchmark as a world-class bay area, creating a strong momentum for the tourism development of the entire region of Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao and the national tourism development.

Director General of the Department of Affairs on Tourism of Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan of CNTA, Li Yaying, remarked that tourism is a rising industry and the new era of holistic tourism development has arrived. In parallel with the latest tourism prospect, the Federation is established to seize the opportunities as a practical measure to foster concerted development. She encouraged the Federation to take concrete actions to enhance cooperation by enhancing policy alignment, launching new collaborative projects, developing new features, integrating regional tourism resources and jointly tapping into different tourism markets, striding forward with innovation to create a new landscape for the tourism development of the Bay Area.

The Tourism Federation of Cities in Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao Bay Area will hold an establishment ceremony at the opening ceremony of the Guangdong Tourism and Culture Festival 2017 tomorrow (12 December).
