Regarding a rumour in social network claiming that many people died despite resuscitation in the Accident and Emergency Department of Conde de São Januário General Hospital, the Health Bureau clarifies that from 00:00 of 24 August to 09:00 of 25 August, a total of 3 males died despite resuscitation, all of them died of drowning in car parks during the hoist of typhoon; there is no record of any other death cases due to ineffective resuscitation apart from this. In addition, a total of 700 individuals sought medical attention yesterday in the Accident and Emergency Department of Conde de São Januário General Hospital, which is fewer than normal days of 800 people.
It is anticipated that more people with chronic diseases will seek medical care in the hospital; therefore, to guarantee reasonable use of the emergency service, members of the public are urged not to misuse emergency service. At the same time, the Health Bureau once again appeals to the general public not to believe in rumours that may lead to unnecessary panic, and not to create fake news that may cause chaos and anxiety in the society; otherwise, criminal liability will be incurred.
