Employment survey for March-May 2015

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that the unemployment rate for March-May 2015 was 1.8%, up slightly by 0.1 percentage point from February-April 2015; the underemployment rate held stable at 0.3%.

Total labour force was 405,700 and the labour force participation rate stood at 74.0%. Total employment decreased by 500 from February-April 2015, at 398,500. Analysed by industry, employment in Real Estate & Business Activities saw decrease.

Number of the unemployed was 7,200, up by 500 from February-April 2015; fresh labour force entrants searching for their first job accounted for 5.9% of the total unemployed, up by 0.2 percentage points.

In comparison with March-May 2014, the labour force participation rate and the unemployment rate increased by 0.7 and 0.1 percentage points respectively, while the underemployment rate decreased by 0.1 percentage point.
