The last day (March 29) of the 2014 Macao International Environmental Co-operation Forum and Exhibition (2014MIECF) has been designated as the Green Public Day. A series of environmental-themed activities were organised with the aim of disseminating environmental information to the public in a fun-filled atmosphere. These activities attracted the participation of 2,900 visitors, providing a lively atmosphere to the venue.

In order to constantly enhance the environmental awareness of local residents, and encourage them to become more environmentally friendly in their daily lives, the last day of MIECF was designated as the Green Public Day with the theme of “Reduce the Use of Plastic Bags to Make Our City Greener”. A range of environmental-themed activities were held, including environmental workshops to encourage the use of imagination and creativity to convert household waste into environmentally friendly articles, as well as themed games for parents and their children, giving them the opportunity to enjoy the occasion and at the same time learn about environmental protection. At the venue, several informational display boards are set up showcasing information and tips on reducing the use of plastic bags in our daily life.

In addition, there was also a lucky draw, with electronic stored value cards designed by the Environmental Protection Bureau (DSPA) given out as prizes. Two DSPA mascots – Mr. Planet and Mano Cloud also participated in the event and take photos with the visitors and provided everyone a pleasant week-end. Besides, local citizens could also join the Green Points Programme as members at the station posted in the venue and immediately earn 50 bonus points.

In order to promote environmental awareness and understanding of the MIECF´s concept, DSPA organised 600 students from 12 education institutions to visit the venue, with guided tours to explain to the students the concept of and information about MIECF and the Green Public Day, so as to make these events as mobile teaching materials about environmental protection.

Education institutions that have participated in Green Public Day activities included: The Workers´ Children High School (Primary Section), Escola da Associação das Mulheres de Macau, Escola Associação dos Filhos e Irmãos dos Agricultores (Choi Non School), Escola Secundária Luso-Chinesa Luís Gonzaga Gomes, Colégio Santa Rosa de Lima (English Section), Lin Nam School, Escola de Nossa Senhora de Fátima, Colégio Diocesano de São José (5.º), Escola para Filhos e Irmãos dos Agricultores (Choi Non School) (Secondary Section), The Workers´ Children High School (Secondary Section),Hou Kong Middle School Macau and the Macau University of Science and Technology.
