Government pleased to see Macao man released in Japan

The Macao SAR Government said today it was pleased to see the release of 14 Chinese nationals, including a Macao resident who were illegally detained by Japan for landing on one of the Diaoyu Islands on Wednesday.

This was stated by a statement issued by the Government Spokesman Office. The statement also said that it was pleased to know that the Macao resident can safely leave Japan today.

“Diaoyu Islands and its islets have been China’s inherent territory since ancient times, and the SAR Government firmly supports any action of the country in safeguarding the sovereignty”, the statement emphasised.

The Government expressed gratitude to the efforts made by the Ministry of Feoreign Affairs and the Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Macao in helping secure the release of the Macao resident, the statement added.
