The State Council of PRC appointed on 2nd November. José/; Proenç/;a Ló/; Branco as Commissioner General of the Police Services of the SAR, following the nomination by the Chief Executive, Edmund Ho Hau Wah.
The Chief Executive expressed his gratitude for the confidence and support of the Central Government. Edmund Ho also congratulated Mr. Branco on his new appointment.
According to the Macau Basic Law and the decisions of Preparatory Committee for the establishment of MSAR on the governmental departments and appointment of principal officials, the leading member of the Police Services, who is considered as a principal official, shall be nominated by the Chief Executive among Chinese citizens with permanent residency of Macau.
The Chief Executive said that he was also confident that the newly appointed leading member of the Police Services would be capable of fulfilling the task in his new position.

José/; Proenç/;a Ló/; Branco, born in Macau in 1958, Chinese nationality.
Mr. Branco joined the Macau Public Police Forces in October 1983. He finished a bachelor degree course at the Academy of Macau Public Security Forces and other a number of courses designed for police commanders. After being promoted as the Commander of Special Operations Unit of Macau Public Police Forces from 1995, Mr. Branco was appointed Commander of Macau Public Security Polices in March 1999.
