Visitor arrivals to Macao showed an increase of over 14 percent in May compared to last year's figures.
Figures released by the Statistics and Census Services showed that the number of visitor arrivals in Macao was 943,352, equivalent to an increase of 14.7% over May 2001.
Visitors came mainly from Hong Kong (42.1%), Mainland China (37.8%) and Taiwan (14.4%).
Same-day visitors reached 387,954 (41.1% of the total arrivals).
In the first five months of 2002, the cumulative number of visitor arrivals reached 4,614,159, up 9.7% over the same period in 2001.
Furthermore, same-day visitors reached 1,936,991, which was 42.0% of the total visitor arrivals.
Compared with the first five months of 2001, the cumulative number of arrivals by sea went up 8.3% to 2,364,805.
Among these visitors, 2,307,442 arrived in the Outer Harbor, which was an increase of 8.9%.
Arrivals by land totaled 1,875,579, an increase of 12.1%. 1,788,760 arrived through the Border Gate and 86,819 through the Co Tai checkpoint.
Arrivals by air reached 373,775 (+6.5%) with 368,194 arrivals (+6.9%) at the Macao International Airport.
