The 2024 Macao International Environmental Co-operation Forum & Exhibition (2024MIECF) will be held from 28 to 30 March at Cotai Expo Halls, The Venetian Macao, under the theme “Reaching the Dual Carbon Goals through Green Transformation”. At the press conference of the 2024MIECF held today (26 March), the official co-ordinators and participating organisations introduced the event. After the press conference, media workers were invited to learn about the exhibition setup and view the green products already on display in advance, including atmospheric water generators, dry-ice cleaning devices, microbiological food waste processors and others.
The 2024MIECF is hosted by the Government of the Macao Special Administrative Region, with the support of the National Development and Reform Commission of the People’s Republic of China, the Ministry of Science and Technology of the People’s Republic of China, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of the People’s Republic of China, and the Ministry of Ecology and Environment of the People’s Republic of China. It is co-organised by the governments of the Pan-Pearl River Delta Region (PPRD) and co-ordinated by the Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM) and the Environmental Protection Bureau (DSPA). In line with the country’s “dual carbon” goals and the key environmental protection policies enacted by the Macao SAR Government, including the Long-term Decarbonisation Strategy of Macao. It will be the third year for the 2024MIECF to serve as a professional forum and exhibition on “carbon neutrality”.
A 20% increase in exhibition area and over 50% in international exhibitors
Entering its 16th year, MIECF has increased its exhibition area by 20% from last year to 12,000 square metres. Over 560 exhibition booths are set up in the “Pan-Pearl River Delta Region Pavilion”, the “Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Environmental Protection Industries Exhibition Area”, the “Green and Low-carbon Project Zone”, the “Green Smart Industries Exhibition Area” and the “Green Mobility Zone”, which will exhibit products and services on environmental protection from more than ten countries and regions, such as carbon neutrality technology, energy management, water resource management, green transport, eco-city integration and green buildings. There are more than 400 exhibitors this year, with the number of foreign exhibitors grew by 55% year-over-year. At the same time, international buyers from over 30 countries and regions will participate in the procurement meetings in Macao, with a view to tapping into more environmental business opportunities in the international market.
Various projects will make their debuts at the 2024MIECF
The Green Showcase in this edition will continue to provide a platform to display innovative green technologies and products. Various green products will be unveiled during the event, such as mobile charging and energy storage robots, 3D-printing micro electric vehicles, atmospheric water generators, microbiological food waste processors and other products for commercial and domestic use. In addition, green solutions, including green investment, solar energy control and saving systems, carbon-captured air purification systems, dry-ice cleaning technology, organic and non-hazardous solid waste treatment, and resource utilisation, will also be presented.
High-profile keynote speakers will share international environmental information
The 2024MIECF has invited Ruihe Tu, Head of United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) China Office and Co-chair of Result Group of the Planet in UN-China Sustainable Development Co-operation Framework, to deliver a keynote speech on “Global Environmental Governance: Progress and Outlook” at the opening ceremony. He will review the progress of global environmental governance over the past 50 years, and discuss the current situation and challenges and the key areas for action in the coming years, providing the environmental industry with forward-looking perspectives for its development.
The Green Forum helps the “1+4” industries seize new ESG business opportunities
Four “Green Forum” sessions will be held on two consecutive days during the 2024MIECF, focusing on environmental issues such as ESG (environmental, social and corporate governance), green finance, carbon neutrality, and green transformation to enrich green development of the event. More than 30 renowned experts and scholars from Mainland China, Portuguese-speaking countries, European countries, Southeast Asian countries, Hong Kong and Macao have been invited to take part in these sessions to explore green development paths together.
On the first day of the event, the “Green Business Co-operation Day - Session 1” will be co-hosted by the IPIM and PricewaterhouseCoopers, where domestic and overseas industry professionals will discuss new business opportunities arising from the integrated development of ESG and the “1+4” key industries.
The “Session 3: Creating a Blueprint for a Carbon Neutral City to Tackle Climate Change” and the “Session 4: Implementing Green Development Solutions to Promote Urban Transformation” will be held on the second day, where a number of experts and scholars in the environmental sector will give advice and suggestions on how to achieve the “dual carbon” goals and create a green city.
Themed business matching sessions promote green co-operation and various services facilitate the transformation and development of enterprises
To promote green exchanges and co-operation, the 2024MIECF will host themed business matching sessions, covering a wide range of topics such as Macao-Hengqin Synergy Business Matching on Environmental Protection, SME Environmental Procurement from Integrated Tourism and Leisure Enterprises, Big Health Green Supply Chain, Green Technology and Carbon Trading, and International Green Energy.
For the first time, the “Green Transformation Service Counter” will be set up to provide enterprises with consulting services in fields including ESG, green certification and green technology transformation, and the Investor’s “One-stop Service” will remain available to help enterprises settle in Macao.
“Multi-venue events”, concurrent events and technical visits expand business opportunities in the environmental sector
In line with the country’s “dual-carbon” goals and the Outline Development Plan for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, the 2024MIECF features a string of “multi-venue events” and concurrent events to help all participants seize the development opportunities in new energy industries, zero-carbon smart industries, green energy, low-carbon development, green transformation strategies and other cutting-edge environmental sectors through forums, seminars and promotional sessions. Technical visits will also be offered where participants will visit the recycling facilities for electronic and electrical devices and the Cotai Ecological Reserve to strengthen the exchange on environmental technologies.
Moreover, in order to deepen the “industry + MICE” cross-sectoral synergy, this year’s MIECF will arrange guided community tours and MICE environment experience tours for trade visitors to experience the charm of Macao as a tourism and MICE city, thus contributing to the development of the community economy and related industries.
Green Public Day and other initiatives boost green and low-carbon development
The last day of the 2024MIECF (30 March) is designated as the Green Public Day, which will provide the public with free access to the latest information and technologies on environmental protection, so as to disseminate environmental knowledge and advocate for a green future. Four electric shuttle bus routes will be available free of charge between Central Macao, Northern Macao, Taipa and the MIECF venue on Green Public Day to encourage the public to travel green.
To establish itself as a green and low-carbon MICE event, the 2024MIECF will continue to implement a series of green MICE initiatives and launch a 2.0 version of “Macao Carbon Inclusion”, to promote a low-carbon lifestyle and foster a favourable social environment for carbon emissions reduction. In addition, this year’s MIECF will particularly introduce the “Green Partnership” Programme to encourage more enterprises to go green and low-carbon.
