The University of Macau (UM) will hold a seminar titled ‘Global Governance and the Development of Relations between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries in the New Context’ on 13 April (next Tuesday). Renowned experts and scholars from Macao and the mainland will attend the seminar and discuss topics related to global governance in the new context, the Chinese path, and relations between China and Portuguese-speaking countries. The seminar will be open to the public. All are welcome.

In the wake of the pandemic, there have emerged new changes, new developments, and new situations in global economy and politics. At this critical point and against the backdrop of the rapid development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, this seminar aims to provide a platform for a comprehensive analysis of the external environment and development conditions facing China and Macao. Experts and scholars will discuss the cooperation between China and Portuguese-speaking countries and explore how Macao, as a service platform for commercial and trade cooperation between China and Portuguese-speaking countries, can further play its role in facilitating the ‘internal circulation’ within the country, linking domestic and international markets, and promoting China’s opening-up and high-quality development.

The seminar will revolve around three themes, namely ‘Challenges of the Global Governance System in the New Context’, ‘Relations between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries and China’s Foreign Policy’, and ‘Promotion of Cooperation between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries’. Representatives from the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, UM, the Chinese University of Hong Kong (Shenzhen), the Macau University of Science and Technology, the City University of Macau, and the University of Saint Joseph, will present their views and offer suggestions on the future development of China and Macao.

The seminar will be held on 13 April from 9:00am to 4:00pm in the auditorium of the university library. Those who are interested can register at: https://forms.gle/SmZxdXiJu4AezhZA9. For enquiries, please call 8822 8976.
