A number of reports have been made to the Judiciary Police regarding a phone call from a number +44 75597815XX, apparently from the United Kingdom.  This is believed to be a Wangiri or One Ring phone scam.

A police circular alerting members of the public in relation to this scam was issued earlier in the month and the Judiciary Police urge you not to answer or return any suspicious phone calls to avoid falling prey to fraud.

Preventive measures:

  1. Be vigilant against number with the prefix “00”   or “+”;
  2. Never wire money or make any bank transfers to strangers;
  3. Past cases showed that fraudsters use computer software to change the caller ID to any telephone numbers they want.  Be cautious as caller IDs can be spoofed;
  4. Do not give out personal information over any unsolicited phone calls.  Scammers can use your information to commit crimes;
  5. Share crime prevention tips with family and friends to protect them from fraud;
  6. If you think you have fallen prey to scam or you have any crime intelligence, please call our Anti-fraud hotline 8800 7777 or crime report hotline 993.
