The Chief Executive, Mr Ho Iat Seng, visited on Tuesday (16 February) a number of neighbourhoods, in order to gain a better understanding of business conditions there, and garner opinions from shopkeepers and from other members of the public regarding employment opportunities for locals.

Mr Ho visited Old Taipa Village, locations near the Ruins of St Paul’s, Senado Square, and other areas.

Tuesday’s visits were part of a series of tours by the Chief Executive to a number of facilities during the Lunar New Year period, to offer greetings to members of the public, including civil servants.

On Monday (15 February), the Chief Executive made visits respectively to construction sites for: the Islands District Medical Complex; the fourth Macao-Taipa bridge at the New Urban Zone Area A; and housing for the elderly. During the visits, Mr Ho was briefed on the latest planning for, and progress of work on, the respective projects. Mr Ho additionally offered construction workers at those sites gifts to thank them for staying in Macao for the Lunar New Year holiday, in line with the Government’s appeal on that topic.

On Sunday (14 February), Mr Ho visited the new wholesale market at the Macao area of the Zhuhai-Macao Cross-Border Industrial Zone. While there, Mr Ho talked to staff from the Municipal Affairs Bureau’s Laboratory Division, in order to understand better its daily work, particularly in relation to quarantine and inspection on imported cold-chain food, and regarding workflow on environmental and equipment checks for possible presence of the virus that causes COVID-19, namely in the wholesale market and in wet markets across Macao.

Additionally on Sunday, Mr Ho visited facilities of the Public Security Police Force, and of the Fire Services Bureau, in order to get a better understanding of front-line officers’ equipment, especially the gear to protect them against exposure to the virus causing COVID-19. Mr Ho thanked the front-line officers for their dedication and hard work in keeping Macao and its inhabitants safe.

On Saturday (13 February), Mr Ho visited several social services centres run by not-for-profit groups, and gave the people there his seasonal greetings. Elderly users of the centres and others on site were excited to welcome the Chief Executive during the holidays.
