Interview exemption: As the sole local public institution of higher education specialising in cultivating tourism and hospitality professionals, the Macao Institute for Tourism Studies (IFTM) has been well received by people from all sectors of society. In addition to undergraduate programmes, the IFTM also offers postgraduate programmes (postgraduate diploma, master’s degree and doctoral degree programmes) to provide students with a complete professional learning plan. The Joint Admission Examination for Macao Four Higher Education Institutions (JAE) is open for registration from this date to 20 January. JAE candidates applying to the IFTM this year will not be required to participate in an English group interview.
International rankings: The quality education provided by the IFTM is widely recognised by the industry and the international world. Since the launch of the QS World University Rankings in the area of Hospitality and Leisure Management in 2017, the IFTM has been highly ranked. It ranks 1st in Macao, 2nd in Asia and 14th in the world on the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2020 for Hospitality and Leisure Management. Moreover, it ranks top 50 worldwide in the 2020 ShanghaiRanking’s Global Ranking of Academic Subjects in the area of Hospitality and Tourism Management. The IFTM is the first educational institution to obtain the UNWTO TedQual Certification by the World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO). So far, the IFTM has a total of eight bachelor’s degree programmes with this certification: the most accredited bachelor’s degree programmes in the world. It is also the first higher education institution in the world to pass the “International Quality Review” (IQR) of the UK’s Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (QAA).
Majors: The IFTM is a higher education institution in Macao that provides the most diversified degree programmes related to the tourism and hospitality industry. The programmes emphasise both theory and practice. Daytime programmes are taught in English, including Culinary Arts Management, Cultural and Heritage Management, Hotel Management, Tourism Business Management, Tourism Event Management, and Tourism Retail and Marketing Management.
Programme characteristics: The Culinary Arts Management Programme is targeted at people aspiring to engage in catering management or become all-round cooking professionals. The Cultural and Heritage Management Programme is designed for people who are interested in cultural heritage management, cultural tourism, or their popularisation and education. The Hotel Management Programme emphasises the importance of professional service attitudes to managing operations. The Tourism Business Management Programme combines theory and practice to enhance the overall competitiveness of students working in different areas of tourism. The Tourism Event Management Programme aims to cultivate professionals for the booming MICE industry. The Tourism Retail and Marketing Management Programme is designed to prepare future participants in the retail industry and to improve market competitiveness of enterprises.
Scholarships and student grants: The IFTM has received donations from the IFTM Council and various government departments, private enterprises, associations and individuals to set up and grant a variety of scholarships and student grants, including those specially for freshmen.
