Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that licensed motor vehicles in Macao totalled 240,082 as at end-June 2020, up slightly by 0.9% year-on-year. Light automobiles (109,594) and heavy motorcycles (100,235) rose by 1.5% and 2.4% respectively; however, light motorcycles (22,897) dropped by 7.1%. New registration of motor vehicles in June increased by 22.5% year-on-year to 1,013, with that of heavy motorcycles (622) rising by 43.6%. In the first half year of 2020, new registration of motor vehicles went down by 7.4% year-on-year to 5,293. Number of traffic accidents in June totalled 796, with 313 injuries. In the first half year, there were 4,241 traffic accidents, involving 1,515 victims and 3 of them were killed.
Cross-border vehicular traffic in June declined by 88.3% year-on-year to 51,620 trips, of which light automobiles (25,851 trips) tumbled by 93.3% due to the epidemic; yet, heavy trucks (25,746 trips) decreased by a mere 5.4% on account of a continued demand for freight services. In the first half year of 2020, cross-border vehicular traffic dropped by 65.1% year-on-year to 908,688 trips. Meanwhile, gross weight of containerized cargo by land in June grew by 76.0% year-on-year to 2,380 tonnes, of which inward transit cargo (1,208 tonnes) passing through the Checkpoint of Cotai leapt by 346.8%. In the first half year, gross weight of containerized cargo by land rose by 36.2% year-on-year to 11,577 tonnes.
Gross weight of port containerized cargo fell by 25.2% year-on-year to 9,143 tonnes in June; cargo handled at the Ká-Hó Harbour (1,188 tonnes) shrank by 79.4% while that shipped through the Inner Harbour (7,955 tonnes) went up by 23.4%. In the first half year, gross weight of port containerized cargo dropped by 29.4% to 51,334 tonnes.
Arriving and departing commercial flights at the Macau International Airport in June declined by 94.2% year-on-year to 350 trips. Air cargo totalled 2,774 tonnes, a drop of 11.5% year-on-year; gross weight of inward cargo (305 tonnes) and transit cargo (29 tonnes) decreased by 43.7% and 92.4% respectively, whereas that of outward cargo (2,440 tonnes) rose by 10.5%. In the first half year, arriving and departing commercial flights fell by 74.3% year-on-year to 9,161 trips, and air cargo reduced by 28.1% to 13,215 tonnes.
As at the end of June 2020, there were 111,896 fixed-line telephone subscribers, down by 7.0% year-on-year. Number of mobile phone subscribers reduced by 15.4% to 1,795,753, with stored-value GSM card subscribers (982,092) decreasing by 26.3%. Internet subscribers grew by 8.7% year-on-year to 610,635. In June, the duration of internet usage went up by 4.0% to 137 million hours. Total duration of internet usage reached 815 million hours in the first half year, an increase of 5.6% year-on-year.
