Around 18,000 Primary 1 to 3 students from 59 schools in Macao returned to school to resume classes on 1st June and 2nd June. The related schools had followed the Guidelines for Class Resumption issued by the Education and Youth Affairs Bureau (hereinafter referred to as the “DSEJ”) to disinfect the school campus and strengthen their hygiene measures, as well as conduct a drill on class resumption. All school staff and cross-border students had passed their nucleic acid tests as well.
On the morning of 1st June, the directors, heads and staff of the DSEJ went to different schools to understand the situation. Some schools had an off-peak lesson time arrangement by adjusting the beginning time of the first lesson of various grades with a 5 to 30 minute lag for proper crowd management. With the cooperation of parents and students, the schools implemented various school epidemic prevention measures in a strictly and orderly manner. The overall operation was smooth.
In the early stage of class resumption, parents, teachers and student counsellors are suggested to provide more support and concern for their children/students, and help them adapt to the learning environment again, and establish good living and hygiene habits. The DSEJ will continue to send staff to visit schools on 2nd June and understand the class resumption situation, and will keep working with various education stakeholders to ensure the health and safety of teachers and students.
