Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that licensed motor vehicles in Macao totalled 239,663 as at end-April 2020, a slight increase of 0.6% year-on-year. Light automobiles (109,392) and heavy motorcycles (99,751) rose by 1.4% and 1.9% respectively, whereas light motorcycles (23,156) dropped by 7.5%. New registration of motor vehicles in April reduced by 5.4% year-on-year to 857, with that of light automobiles (287) falling by 25.5% whereas heavy motorcycles (556) rising by 15.6%. In the first four months of 2020, new registration of motor vehicles decreased by 20.4% year-on-year to 3,183. Number of traffic accidents in April totalled 613, with 208 injuries. In the first four months, there were 2,702 traffic accidents, involving 942 victims and 3 of them were killed.
Under the tightened quarantine measures for arrivals, cross-border vehicular traffic in April declined by 89.5% year-on-year to 45,707 trips. In the first four months of 2020, cross-border vehicular traffic dropped by 52.8% year-on-year to 805,684 trips. Meanwhile, arriving and departing commercial flights at the Macau International Airport decreased by 97.3% year-on-year to 162 trips in April, and fell by 63.3% year-on-year to 8,573 trips in the first four months.
Gross weight of containerized cargo by land in April grew by 64.1% year-on-year to 2,167 tonnes, of which cargo passing through the Checkpoint of Cotai expanded by 61.1% to 2,127 tonnes. On the other hand, gross weight of port containerized cargo decreased by 33.5% to 7,435 tonnes; cargo handled at the Ká-Hó Harbour (784 tonnes) reduced by 85.4% while cargo shipped through the Inner Harbour (6,651 tonnes) rose by 14.4%. In the first four months, gross weight of containerized cargo by land increased by 24.7% year-on-year to 7,244 tonnes, whereas that of port containerized cargo dropped by 28.9% to 33,873 tonnes.
The Macau International Airport handled 1,515 tonnes of air cargo in April, a drop of 56.4% year-on-year. Gross weight of inward cargo (131 tonnes), outward cargo (1,372 tonnes) and transit cargo (12 tonnes) recorded decreases. In the first four months, air cargo reduced by 34.7% year-on-year to 7,916 tonnes.
As at the end of April 2020, there were 113,559 fixed-line telephone subscribers and 2,116,999 mobile phone subscribers, down by 6.7% and 1.3% respectively year-on-year. Internet subscribers grew by 9.1% year-on-year to 606,917. In April, the duration of internet usage went up by 1.4% to 136 million hours. Total duration of internet usage reached 540 million hours in the first four months, an increase of 6.1% year-on-year.
