The Novel Coronavirus Response and Coordination Centre has confirmed a 13th case of COVID-19 infection recorded in Macao.

The new case involves a 20-year-old female resident of Macao who had been studying in the United Kingdom. At around 11pm on 16 March she arrived at the Macao boundary crossing area serving the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge (HKZMB). During the checkpoint formalities there, it was discovered that she had a fever. The patient was then transferred to Conde S. Januário Hospital and subsequently tested positive for the novel coronavirus.

The patient is now being kept in isolation for treatment at Conde S. Januário Hospital. She is described as showing mild clinical signs of infection relating to the novel coronavirus. The patient herself has not complained of any feeling of sickness.

On 15 March, the now-patient and her boyfriend had taken British Airways flight BA33 from London to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The now-patient was in seat number 33K. On 16 March, the couple boarded Cathay Dragon flight KA734 from Kuala Lumpur to Hong Kong. The now-patient was in seat number 63K. On arrival in Hong Kong International Airport she was met by her father, who accompanied her aboard a shuttle bus from the HKZMB Hong Kong Port to the Macao boundary crossing area.

The Macao woman’s father, a Macao resident, has been classified as a person that has been in close contact with that patient. The father is being kept in quarantine at the Public Health Clinical Centre in Coloane.

The Macao woman’s boyfriend, a Hong Kong resident, is now in Hong Kong. Macao’s Health Bureau has informed the Hong Kong health authorities about the case.

Anyone in Macao who took one or both of the same flights as listed above should call the Novel Coronavirus Response and Coordination Centre at (+853) 2870 0800.

Three patients – namely the 13th case mentioned above; as well as the recently-confirmed 11th and 12th cases, both imported – are being kept in isolation for treatment at Conde S. Januário Hospital. The 10 previously-confirmed cases had all been discharged after receiving treatment at the Conde S. Januário Hospital.
