Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) led a delegation of its market representatives to pay a familiarization visit to Hengqin, Zhuhai today (16 January) to experience and learn more about Hengqin’s tourism products and projects, to facilitate future development of new Macao-Hengqin tour products, strengthen promotion and cooperation in multi-destination tourism between Zhuhai and Macao, and advance the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area as a travel destination.
MGTO Deputy Director Cheng Wai Tong led a delegation of about 40 market representatives to visit the Traditional Chinese Medicine Science and Technology Industrial Park of Co-operation between Guangdong and Macau, to learn more about the overall planning and construction progress of the Industrial Park as well as various exemplary healthcare projects such as Ola Lotus and the Creativity Museum of Traditional Chinese Medicine Science and Technology. The delegates also exchanged views with representatives of the Industrial Park on how to promote the healthcare sector and push forward Chinese medical tourism.
Following that, the delegation visited the Lionsgate Entertainment World on Hengqin International Leisure Tourism Island. The theme park combines cutting-edge technology and enchanting film stories to immerse visitors into a world of interactive entertainment experiences. The brilliant colors of Macao’s night market are also brought to life from movie scenes, enabling visitors to experience the glamour of Macao. The delegation then paid a visit to the brewery of Macau Beer in Zhuhai for a showcase of distinct sets of brewing equipment and the brewing process, followed by a sampling of Macau Beer for its unique aroma.
Macao is actively participating in the national development of the Belt and Road and the Greater Bay Area, which, coupled with the inauguration of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge, have unlocked new possibilities and challenges for Macao’s tourism industry. The familiarization visit serves to explore wider possibilities for sharing of leisure tourism resources and fostering concerted tourism development between Macao and Hengqin. MGTO will continue its efforts in building the Greater Bay Area as a destination and promoting Macao as a travel destination in different visitor source markets through market representatives, consultants and representatives of promotional entities from worldwide. Capitalizing on the opportunities brought by the “Hengqin International Leisure Tourism Island Construction Scheme”, the Office will leverage the unique tourism resources of both destinations to forge closer collaboration between Guangdong and Macao.
