The Chief Executive, Mr Chui Sai On, today met with the Chief Executive-elect, Mr Ho Iat Seng. The two officials agreed to keep in close touch in order to cooperate and ensure a smooth transition to a new administration.

In the meeting held at Government Headquarters, Mr Chui again congratulated Mr Ho for winning – by securing a high number of the available votes – the Fifth Chief Executive Election, held on Sunday (25 August).

In days to come, the Government would render its full support – in terms of resources and facilities – to accommodate the needs of Mr Ho in forming a new team for governance, Mr Chui said.

Meanwhile, the Government would continue to press ahead with existing policy plans. This was in order to consolidate the strong basis for the city’s development and to further the maintenance of social stability and harmony. These efforts were also helpful for reinforcement of the safe and harmonious momentum of Macao’s society in the context of the celebrations for the 20th anniversary of the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) and the installation of the next-term government administration.

Mr Chui additionally said the Government would submit a report to the Central Government regarding the election result and the proposal that Mr Ho be appointed as the next chief executive of the Macao SAR. The report would be submitted once the necessary legal procedures had been completed.

Speaking in today’s meeting, Mr Ho expressed his gratitude regarding the preparations of the Chief Executive and the Government in relation to the transition period. The Chief Executive-elect said his team would work closely with the Chief Executive’s Office in order to ensure the transition occurred in a smooth and orderly manner.
