The Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) released survey results of Manpower Needs and Wages of the Gaming Sector for the second quarter of 2019. Survey coverage excludes junket promoters and junket associates.

At the end of the second quarter of 2019, number of full-time employees in the Gaming Sector increased by 2.8% year-on-year to 57,840, with number of dealers rising by 4.8% to 25,213.

In June 2019, average earnings (excluding bonuses) of full-time employees in the Gaming Sector were MOP24,550, up by 3.8% year-on-year. Average earnings of dealers increased by 2.0% to MOP20,850.

Job vacancies totalled 904 at the end of the second quarter of 2019, up by 81 year-on-year. Most of the vacancies (79.5%) were for clerks, including 588 vacancies for dealers.

In terms of recruitment prerequisites, merely 14.2% of the vacancies required work experience while 64.7% required senior secondary education or lower; requirement for knowledge of Mandarin and English accounted for 77.2% and 21.9% of the total respectively.

In the second quarter of 2019, a total of 1,942 new employees were hired, up by 48.1% from 1,311 in the same quarter of 2018. The employee recruitment rate (3.4%) and the job vacancy rate (1.5%) rose by 1.1 percentage points and 0.1 percentage point respectively year-on-year. These indicators reflect an increase in demand for manpower in the Gaming Sector.

As regards vocational training, the Gaming Sector had 106,957 participants attending training courses provided by the enterprise (including courses organised by the enterprise or in conjunction with other institutions, and those sponsored by the enterprise), a year-on-year increase of 39.9%. Most of the participants attended Services courses (37.0%), followed by Gaming & Entertainment Services courses (27.6%). The majority of the courses were organised by the gaming enterprises, and the number of participants accounted for 97.6% of the total.
