Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) launches its newly-designed Macao tourism promotion website (https://www.macaotourism.gov.mo) today (1 August), with new and enhanced functionalities such as responsive design, visually-oriented content, map integration, and social media integration. Adopting web accessibility design, the new website strives to create a more seamless, convenient and enjoyable browsing experience for people seeking inspiration and tips for travelling in Macao.
The revamped Macao tourism promotion website supports 15 languages, with a clean and stylish design to reconstruct the website content and to add vibrant illustrations. It further uses the Macao tourism mascot, Mak Mak, as a design element. The new promotional website conforms to Web Content Accessibility Guidelines, and introduces enhanced functionalities such as responsive design, visually-oriented content, social media integration and a new key feature – map integration. It is a one-stop platform for useful tourist information and tips, including sightseeing, shows and entertainment, shopping, restaurants, hotels, tourist information counters, walking tour routes, events and festivities. Users can conveniently choose their favorite tourism events or to explore ancillary tourist facilities via the location identification system of devices.
Five new features to optimize users’ browsing experience
Responsive web design: The new responsive promotional website adjusts and adapts well to any device screen size including desktops, laptops, tablets and smart phones, creating the best possible content flow for users.
Visually-oriented content: Users will be impressed with Macao’s tourist information through multi-media content, such as appealing images and videos.
Map integration: Users can easily discover tourist facilities in their vicinity and learn about the forecast visitor flows at major tourist attractions in Macao with the interactive maps. Localized information can also be obtained via the location identification system of mobile devices.
Web accessibility design: Adhering to Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0, the innovative website is equipped with an appropriate contrast display and a consistent and logical file structure. This allows people with special needs to use screen reading software or other means to read webpage contents, in an effort to build an accessible online environment.
Social media integration: The website has links to various social media platforms, such as Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Instagram and YouTube, in different languages, operated by MGTO representatives. This cross-social networking and integration further enriches the website’s content.
Smart travel planning tools to enrich visitors’ experience in Macao
In parallel with the strategy of the Macao Special Administrative Region Government to develop Macao into a smart city along with action plans formulated in the Macao Tourism Industry Development Master Plan, MGTO has three goals for smart tourism, one of which is to “optimize visitors’ travel experiences before, during and after trips through different initiatives of smart tourism application”.
Besides stepping up its effort in adding more features to the promotional website, MGTO will be adopting artificial intelligence and Open Data approaches to develop new intelligent trip planning applications, which aims to provide tailor-made trip planning services for users based on their travel interests.
