The Natural and Agrarian Museum under the Civic and Municipal Affairs Bureau (IACM) is dedicated to increasing knowledge and understanding of natural resources and ecological conservation. Over the years, it has played an important role in promoting the conservation of nature to the public. A series of activities will be held to highlight the chosen theme of the International Museum Day Carnival 2018, which is “Hyperconnected Museums: New approaches, New Publics”.

The series of activities will take place in Avenida da Praia, in Taipa, on May 13, which will include an exhibition on “Evolution of Wetland in Avenida da Praia, Taipa” that introduces the changes and conservation of the wetland and common wetland flora and fauna, as well as a “DIY Workshop on Planting Aquatic Plants” for participants to create their potted plants and bring them home. They can enjoy the fun of planting and tending to them on their own. Both activities will be open for registration on site.

In keeping with the ongoing effort of promoting wetland conservation and to increase public awareness of the importance of wetlands, IACM will host a birdwatching activity following the success of last year, with reinforcements on the knowledge level. With visits to the wetlands and field trips, etc. in small groups, residents can understand easily the relationship between the birds and wetlands in Macao. On the day of Macao International Museum Day Carnival, birdwatching booths will be set up in Avenida da Praia for visitors to participate in birdwatching activities, with explanation about the characteristics of different birds by experts. As for the two sessions of guided tour of the Wetland in Avenida da Praia, Taipa held on the same day, interested individuals may register in advance between May 7 and 9 to experience the charm of wetlands. In addition, members of the public are welcome to join the “Household Farming Educational Activity” workshop and other activities on learning about nature, which are also scheduled for May. For the latest information about these nature-oriented activities, please visit the Macao Nature website (http://nature.iacm.gov.mo).

The Natural and Agrarian Museum located in Seac Pai Van Park in Coloane enables residents and tourists to learn about the close relationship between human beings and land the flora and fauna of Macao, so that they will cherish and protect nature. The museum is open from Tuesday to Sunday (closed on Monday), from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Admission is free. For enquiry, please call 2888 0087.
