In response to the International Museum Day, the Macao Museum of Art (MAM) and Handover Gifts Museum of Macao, under the auspices of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, will organize a series of activities and exhibitions in May, including the “2018 Macao International Museum Day Carnival” on 13 May (Sunday), co-organized by Macao museums and the “2018 Night at the Museum” on 19 May (Saturday), co-organized by 5 museums, under the auspices of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, as well as a number of activities and two highlighted exhibitions in the same month.
Carnival in Taipa
On 13 May, the Taipa Houses host the “2018 Macao International Museum Day Carnival” under the theme of Taipa’s stories. The MAM booths will feature replicas of watercolours in the museum’s collection produced by local painters from 1950s to 1990s, depicting Taipa’s scenery and revealing the beauty of the rural Taipa of those times. Booths feature a photography area and a watercolour exploration area, which are open to the public’s participation. In addition, the Macau Artist Society organizes three sessions of "Reminiscing in Taipa – Sketching Workshop" by experienced painters who will introduce the above mentioned paintings and guide participants in landscape sketching.
Varied activities and exhibitions in May
In May, the MAM offers a number of multicultural activities and opens two exhibitions, including the thematic talk “Praise to Love and Life – Exploring the Origins of Chagall’s Art” and the exploration activity for little artists “Dancing with Colors - Discovering Paul Klee”. There are also special events for Friends of MAM: “Charisma of Nature ─ Workshop on Cyanotype” and “A Kaleidoscope of Fun ─ Workshop on Cyanotype”. Two exhibitions will be inaugurated in May, namely the exhibition “In Love with Macao – Calligraphy and Paintings of Macao” which showcases artworks by painters and calligraphers who lived in Macao or had ties with the city in someway from the 1930s to the 21st century, allowing the audience to appreciate the beauty of traditional Chinese paintings and calligraphy works; and the exhibition “Marc Chagall, Light and Colour in Southern France” which explores the light and colour in the painter’s works. The Handover Gifts Museum of Macao offers the public a special guided tour on the handover gifts on 18 May at 3pm.
