The Macao Annual Visual Arts Exhibition 2014 – Western Media Category, organized by the Cultural Affairs Bureau of the Macao S.A.R. Government (IC), is to inaugurate on 16 May at 6:30pm at the Old Court Building, located at Av. da Praia Grande. As part of the 25th Macao Arts Festival, the exhibition is already a popular feature of the city’s cultural calendar, providing a regular stage for local artists to showcase their talent and creativity.
Following the 2013 edition, under the Chinese Painting Category, this year’s exhibition is alternately dedicated to Western Media. A total of 418 works have been submitted since the open call held last October for painting, photography, printmaking, ceramics, sculpture, mixed media, installation and video art works. From those, 80 artworks have been rigorously selected by a jury of five seasoned artists from different origins and disciplines. 10 pieces were selected for the Award of Distinction, namely Bonding by Ng Sang Kei; Betting Game by Sam Kin Hang; Bygone Affection, co-produced by Leong Kit Man, Tou Chi Kuan, Chao Weng I, Leong Keng Ip and Kouk Ka Tin; Sounds of Heart by Chan Weng Ian; Tilted and Twisted Cityscape – 5 by Wong Chon Kit; The Theatre by Ao Ieong Fu; Turning Cool in the Inner Courtyard by Lai Sio Kit; Paradise – 55 by Fok Hoi Seng; Silent Night by Filipe Miguel das Dores; and “Ropes” Series – Capture by Sou Pui Kun.
Throughout its many editions, the Macao Annual Visual Arts Exhibition has drawn an enthusiastic response and support from local artists, offering them a regular platform where passionate creative types can display works denoting rich local flavour, while showcasing the city’s unique cultural charm. Being the organizer, IC aims to enrich the panorama of local art through a regular event that promotes art appreciation and exchange.
The exhibition will be open daily from 10am to 7pm until 17 August at the Old Court Building, in Av. da Praia Grande. Admission is free. The public is most welcome to visit and enjoy these gems of Macao art.
