To promote the awareness of environmental protection and drive Macao as a platform for green industries, the 2010 Macao International Environmental Co-operation Forum and Exhibition provides the opportunities for professionals and experts from the business, academic and public sectors to share their expertise.
Two different forums will be held at the Venetian Macao-Resort-Hotel on April 9 (Friday), from 09:30 to 12:30, namely “Low-Carbon Building and Eco City” and “Clean Technology and Circular Economy”. The first will focus on green issues such as urban ecology, low-carbon transportation, green intelligent buildings and green low-carbon technologies. The second will discuss the co-operation among international industrial enterprises in promoting green economy, especially the interaction between China and the European Union.
High profile think-tank representatives from Brazil, Singapore, Mainland China, Hong Kong and Macao will speak on the “Low-Carbon Building and Eco City” Forum to share their insights on urban ecology, low carbon transport, green and intelligence buildings, and low carbon technologies.
Speakers at the “Low-Carbon Building and Eco City” Forum include the Sub-Director of the Environmental Protection Bureau of Zhongshan and representative of Guangdong Provincial Environmental Protection Bureau, Mr Guo Weihua; the Dean of the Department of Architecture at the School of Design and Environment of the National University of Singapore, Prof. Heng Chye Kiang; the Vice Principal of the University of Macau, Dr. Alex Lai Iat Long; Prof. Leonardo Marques Monteiro from the Faculty of Architecture and Urban Planning of the University of Sao Paulo; the Associate Director of Scott Wilson Group PLC, Mr Gary Foster; Managing Partner of Baumschlager Eberle Hong Kong Ltd., Mr Ulrich Geissler, and PhD Candidate of the School of Architecture of the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Ms Ren Chao.
Moderators of the “Low-Carbon Building and Eco City” Forum are Ms Yvonne Leong In Leng of Macao Architect Association and Prof. Hendrik Tieben, Assistant Professor of the School of Architecture at the Chinese University of Hong Kong.
Forums on Eco City and Circular Economy
The “Clean Technology and Circular Economy” Forum, which runs concurrently with “Low-Carbon Building and Eco City” Forum, will focus on the huge benefits of the circular economy approach to resource-use efficiency, which integrates cleaner production and industrial ecology. It will also highlight a series of successful CDM projects underway from the southern region of PPRD that China is giving priorities to clean development mechanism projects.
Speakers at this forum include Counsellor of World Trade Organization (WTO), Ms Vivien Liu; (Acting) Senior Environmental Protection Officer of the Environmental Protection Department of the Government of the Hong Kong SAR, Mr Gary Pun Chi Wai; the Deputy Director of the Portuguese Environmental Agency, Ms Luisa Pinheiro; Representative of Guangdong Environmental Industry Association, Mr Ou Yuezhou; the President of Directorate of Portuguese Renewable Energy Association (APREN), Dr. António Sá da Costa, and Chief Strategy Officer of Yingli Green Energy Holding Company Limited, Mr Ma Xuelu.
Moderators of the “Clean Technology and Circular Economy” Forum are Prof. Milan Konečný of Masaryk University of the Czech Republic and Prof. Wang Zhishi of the Faculty of Science and Technology at the University of Macau.
Following the “Low-Carbon Building and Eco City” and “Clean Technology and Circular Economy” is the “Low-Carbon Economy Forum”, which runs from 15:00 to 18:00. Co-organised by the China Petroleum Chemical Association, Environmental Protection Bureau and Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Bureau, the “Low-Carbon Economy Forum” will focus on the relation between climate change and low-carbon economy, as well as the role of petroleum and chemical industry in developing a low-carbon economy.
Speakers at the “Low-Carbon Economy Forum” include the Chairman of China Petroleum Chemical Association, Mr Li Yongwu; Professor of Tsinghua University / Renewable Energy Development Programme, Prof. Zhang Aling; Vice President of China National Petroleum and Chemical Planning Institute, Mr Shi Xianpin; Prof. Zhang Suian from China National Bureau of Energy and China Petrol University; General Manager of Global Acetyl Intermediates of Celanese, Mr John Fotheringham; Supervisor of China National Offshore Oil Corporation, Mr Jin Teng, and the President of SDR Group, Mr Bill Li. The moderator of this forum is Mr Zhao Jungui, the Vice Chairman of China Petroleum Chemical Association.
