2009 MIECF Boosts Business Opportunities for Enterprises

The total site area of the 2009 Macao International Environmental Co-operation and Development Forum and Exhibition (2009MIECF) is over 12,330m2, which is larger than that of last year. The Organising Committee of MIECF hopes that the event will promote and enhance Macao’s status in terms of global environmental protection and bring business opportunities to all the participating enterprises and institutions.

The Organising Committee of MIECF said that the theme of 2009 MIECF is “A Global Green Gathering, Environment – Business – Connection”. Its targets are to promote the spirit of leading a green life and the social responsibility of protecting the environment. It also aims to boost Macao’s role as a platform for co-operation between local and international entities by showcasing green technology and initiatives. Therefore, MIECF does not only promote business opportunities but also help tackle global environmental problems.

“Green Business Co-operation Day” to promote investment

In response to the topic of 2009 MIECF, the MIECF will start the “Green Business Co-operation Day” on the afternoon of 2nd of April. The launching ceremony will be attended by Mr. Francis Tam Pak Yuen, the Secretary for Economy and Finance of the Macao SAR, Mr. Dong Songgen, Vice Chairman of China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT), and heads of international and local economic and trade departments and chambers of commerce.

The activity is co-organised by the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT), Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM), European Union Chamber of Commerce in China (EUCCC), Macao Chamber of Commerce, Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Romania and European Union Business Information Programme (EUBIP). Gathering in Macao from all over the world, officials of environmental and trade departments, senior executives and experts of financial institutions seniors, leaders of chambers of commerce, representatives of well-known multinational corporations will introduce their markets, policies and investment environments to the participants of the “Green Business Co-operation and Finance Symposium” and “Enterprise Green Business Summit”. They will also study feasible environmental protection industry initiatives among co-operations in order to cope with the current international economic environment and explore the current situation and prospects of financing the environmental protection projects.

Since the 2009 MIECF preparatory work had been started, many companies reached a number of co-operation agreements by the platform provided by Macao. On the 2nd of April, which is the Green Business Co-operation Day, the MIECF will arrange a signing ceremony for agreements between enterprises at 5:30pm during the Green Business Networking Cocktail Reception, which provides the opportunity for participants to socialise with their counterparts from different countries and regions and look for business opportunities.

Get business from MIECF’s Green Business Matching Platform

So far 2009MIECF has received more than 470 green projects worldwide, showing a dramatic increase comparing to the previous year. These projects are from Macao SAR, Mainland China, Hong Kong SAR, Brazil, the UK, Canada, Switzerland, the Czech Republic, Korea, Belgium, Finland, etc. They include sewage treatment, solid waste recycling and treatment, renewable energy production, air purification techniques, energy-saving program, eco-building and architecture, solar and wind power, management of environmental protection engineering, etc.

MIECF arranged over 160 matching sessions in advance. The role of Macao as a platform for environmental protection business has gained growing recognition from the business circles, as the increased numbers of business matching projects and origins of participating companies have shown. Presently, business pre-matching registration is still open to enterprises. During the three days of 2009 MIECF, business people are welcome to register on-site at the “Green Business Matching Area” in the exhibition pavilion. Participants and exhibitors may fully use Macao as a business service platform to expand their customer network and look for business partners and opportunities.

Products and Services Presentations for Business Promotion

Besides, the MIECF has organised 23 products and services presentations on the 3rd and 4th of April, to be conducted by different enterprises and organizations. These enterprises and organizations are from Mainland China, Macao SAR, Hong Kong SAR, Japan, Australia, Finland, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Romania and other countries and regions. Their products and services are mainly about clean energy, biochemical technology, clean ventilation, green drainage services, carbon emission reduction technology, sewage and oil spills treatment, green vehicle technologies, as well as experience sharing of green enterprise. Business representatives and the public are welcome.

MIECF will also hold the “Green Co-operation Gateway: Environment – Business - Connection『Extending Green Industry Network』Symposium” in the afternoon of 3rd of April, which will be participated by representatives of a number of local governments, companies and environmental protection experts. The symposium offers an opportunity for them to exchange ideas about environmental-protection projects, regional co-operations and technology transfers.
