Information from the Statistics and Census Service indicated that the plummeting oil prices in the international market drove down the list price of fuels in the fourth quarter of 2008 to register two-digit decrease from the previous quarter, of which the list price of Unleaded Gasoline saw the largest drop of 30.3%. Imports of Gasoline rose by 4.5% over the preceding quarter to 17.0 million litres, with the average price of imports falling by 21.1%; meanwhile, consumption of Gasoline amounted to 16.3 million litres, down by 2.4%. For the whole year of 2008, imports and consumption of Gasoline totalled 62.7 million litres and 63.5 million litres, up by 1.8% and 3.5% respectively over 2007.

In the fourth quarter of 2008, gross available supply of Electricity declined by 25.6% quarter-to-quarter that was attributable to the substantial decrease of 26.9% on Electricity imports; meanwhile, consumption of Electricity dropped by 23.6% to 776 million kWh. In 2008, imports of Electricity rose by 37.3% year-on-year to 2,311 million kWh, accounting for 66.7% of the gross available supply; consumption of Electricity amounted to 3,312 million kWh, up by 11.0%.

Imports of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) went down by 5.2% over the third quarter of 2008 to 9,138 tonnes, but the respective consumption increased by 24.9% to 10,480 tonnes. The average price of LPG imports lowered by 16.4% quarter-to-quarter, with the list price of Bottled LPG and Centralised LPG decreasing by 18.5% and 17.2% respectively. In 2008, imports and consumption of LPG totalled 40,022 tonnes and 40,128 tonnes, up by 10.4% and 12.7% respectively year-on-year.

In the fourth quarter of 2008, imports of Gas Oil & Diesel went up by 27.2% over the previous quarter to 36.5 million litres, whereas the respective consumption dropped slightly by 0.2% to 37.8 million litres. The average price of Gas Oil & Diesel imports shrank by 31.1% quarter-to-quarter, with the list price of different types of Gas Oil & Diesel fell between 21.6% to 22.7%. In 2008, imports and consumption of Gas Oil & Diesel totalled 148.9 million litres and 158.6 million litres, down by 22.1% and 11.7% respectively over 2007.

Both imports and consumption of Natural Gas went up by 8.3% from the previous quarter to 25.7 million cubic metres in the fourth quarter of 2008. For 2008 as a whole, imports and consumption of Natural Gas totalled 82.6 million cubic metres and 82.3 million cubic metres respectively.
