Information from the Statistics and Census Service indicated that there were 1,115 establishments operating in industrial production in 2007, a decrease of 77 establishments over 2006; total number of persons engaged fell by 14.6% to 29,457. Gross Output amounted to MOP16.49 billion, down by 1.6% year-on-year; Intermediate Consumption rose by 1.3% to MOP12.51 billion. Gross Value Added, a measure of the sectoral contribution to the economy, decreased by 9.8% year-on-year to MOP3.98 billion.

Manufacturing industry, an important component of the industrial production of Macao, took up 68.6% (MOP2.73 billion) of the Gross Value Added of the industrial sector; Electricity, Gas & Water Supply accounted for 31.2% (MOP1.24 billion), and Mining & Quarrying shared merely 0.2% (MOP9 million). Compared with 2006, Gross Value Added of Manufacturing; and Electricity, Gas & Water Supply went down by 6.8% and 15.9% respectively, whereas that of Mining & Quarrying registered an increase of 2.1%.

Under the influence of rising prices of raw materials, weakening exports, shortage of human resources, etc., number of establishments and persons engaged in the Manufacturing industry continued to fall. At the end of 2007, there were 1,110 Manufacturing establishments in operation, engaging 28,398 persons, down by 78 establishments and about 5,000 workers respectively from a year earlier. Among these establishments, only 5.6% had 100 or more persons engaged and 77.5% had less than 30 persons, indicating that the Manufacturing industry was still predominated with small establishments.

Gross Output of the Manufacturing industry totalled MOP13.85 billion in 2007, up slightly by 0.4% year-on-year, which was led by significant increase in Gross Output of Food Products & Beverages (+81.4%) and Publishing, Printing & Reproduction of Recorded Media (+69.3%); Gross Output of the two main traditional manufacturing industries, Wearing Apparel and Textiles, decreased by 2.4% and 6.9% respectively that accounted for 55.4% and 13.8% of the total, indicating that no obvious change was observed in the structure of Manufacturing industry.

Another major component of the industrial production of Macao, Electricity, Gas & Water Supply, had 4 operating establishments in 2007; number of persons engaged went up slightly by 0.7% to 1,035. Production of electricity fell by 8.9% in 2007 as a result of rising imports of electricity, causing Gross Output to fall by 11.2% year-on-year to MOP2.62 billion. In addition, Gross Output of Mining & Quarrying went down by 8.2% to MOP17.59 million
