Information from the Statistics and Census Service indicated that visitor arrivals reached 2,421,098 in February 2008, a year-on-year increase of 11.6%. Visitors from Mainland China (1,397,723), Southeast Asia (100,169) and Hong Kong (688,755) grew by 12.9%, 74.2% and 1.5% respectively. Same-day visitors accounted for 52.3% of the total arrivals, at 1,266,667.

The majority of the visitors came from Mainland China and Hong Kong, which accounted for 57.7% and 28.4% of the total respectively. Among the Mainland visitors, 50.0% (699,171) travelled to Macao under the Individual Visit Scheme.

In the first two months of 2008, visitor arrivals totalled 4,792,852, up by 13.9% over the same period of last year. Arrivals from Mainland China rose by 17.8% to 2,819,505, those from Hong Kong and Taiwan, China decreased marginally by 1.0% and 1.1% respectively. Furthermore, same day visitors made up 52.3% of the total arrivals, at 2,506,786.

Analyzed by mode of transport, visitor arrivals by sea went up by 7.1% over February 2007 to 1,542,331. Among them, 1,418,705 arrived at the Outer Harbour (+6.6%), with 56.6% from Hong Kong and 24.6% from Mainland China.

Visitor arrivals by land increased by 16.8% to 2,982,280. Arrivals through the Border Gate rose by 10.8% to 2,828,109 and the majority of these visitors came from Mainland China (79.4%) and Hong Kong (14.5%).

In addition, visitor arrivals by air stood at 268,241, up by 25.1% over February 2007. Arrivals at the Macao International Airport grew by 24.6% to 264,377 and visitors from Taiwan, China (35.8%), South East Asia (25.3%) and Mainland China (23.9%) were the major users.
