Information from the Statistics and Census Service indicated that in the fourth quarter of 2007, except the consumption of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) registered a quarter-to-quarter increase of 28.3%, the consumption of other types of energy decreased, of which the consumption of Fuel Oil decreased by 28.5%. In comparison with the fourth quarter of 2006, consumption of Electricity and LPG rose by 22.9% and 11.2% respectively, whereas that of Fuel Oil dropped by 15.1%. Attributable to the operation of several large-scale tourism and gaming facilities, consumption of Electricity in 2007 surged by 23.1% over 2006.
In the fourth quarter of 2007, list prices of all types of fuel registered increases owing to the surging prices of crude oil internationally, of which the prices of Gas Oil & Diesel for Automotive Use and Fuel Oil (200 litres) rose by 11.4% and 10.9% respectively over the previous quarter. Compared with the same quarter of 2006, the list prices of Common Kerosene (18 litres) and Fuel Oil (200 litres) logged marked rises of 28.4% and 27.9% respectively.
In terms of imports of fuels, imports of LPG in the fourth quarter soared by 35.5% over the previous quarter and by 12.8% year-on-year. For the whole year of 2007, imports of Gas Oil & Diesel registered the biggest increase of 14.1% over 2006.
