Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that receipts and expenditure of Wholesale & Retail Trade totalled MOP126.18 billion and MOP115.39 billion respectively in 2024, down by 8.4% and 6.7% year-on-year. Gross Surplus amounted to MOP11.61 billion.
Receipts of Wholesale Trade increased by 8.4% year-on-year to MOP47.13 billion, with receipts of Wholesale of Fuels and Wholesale Agents rising by 24.0% and 21.2% respectively. Meanwhile, expenditure grew by 6.8% year-on-year to MOP43.40 billion. Gross Surplus totalled MOP4.19 billion.
Receipts of Retail Trade fell by 17.5% year-on-year to MOP72.43 billion, of which receipts from Retail Sale of Goods in Department Stores, Watches, Clocks & Jewellery and Leather Articles declined by 26.5%, 23.3% and 22.2% respectively. Besides, expenditure decreased by 14.8% year-on-year to MOP65.81 billion. A Gross Surplus of MOP6.87 billion was recorded.
Receipts from Sale of Motor Vehicles & Automotive Fuel went up by 2.4% year-on-year to MOP5.79 billion, with receipts from Sale of Motor Vehicles growing by 15.2%. Expenditure climbed by 6.8% year-on-year to MOP5.46 billion. The industry generated a Gross Surplus of MOP445 million.
Market stalls and fixed stalls on the street recorded a 1.2% rise in receipts (MOP837 million) and a 4.0% increase in expenditure (MOP731 million) compared with 2023. Gross Surplus of these stalls stood at MOP105 million.
Wholesale and Retail Survey covers establishments engaged in Wholesale Trade, Retail Trade and Sale of Motor Vehicles & Automotive Fuel, as well as market stalls and fixed street stalls. In 2024, there were 6,972 establishments operating in Wholesale Trade, 7,666 establishments operating in Retail Trade, and 1,125 establishments engaged in Sale of Motor Vehicles & Automotive Fuel. Number of market stalls and fixed street stalls totalled 1,160.
