External merchandise trade statistics for the first three quarters of 2025

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that total value of merchandise exports increased by 2.1% year-on-year to MOP10.31 billion in the first three quarters of 2025, of which value of re-exports (MOP9.23 billion) grew by 2.8% while value of domestic exports (MOP1.08 billion) fell by 3.7%. Total value of merchandise imports dropped by 3.7% year-on-year to MOP91.49 billion. In the first three quarters, external merchandise trade totalled MOP101.80 billion, and merchandise trade deficit amounted to MOP81.18 billion.

Analysed by destination, merchandise exports to the Chinese mainland (MOP934 million) and the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (Hong Kong SAR) (MOP7.35 billion) went up by 59.9% and 3.2% respectively year-on-year in the first three quarters, whereas exports to the USA (MOP219 million) and the EU (MOP158 million) both dropped by 4.7%. Analysed by commodity, exports of Non-textiles increased by 3.9% year-on-year to MOP9.28 billion, while exports of Textiles & garments went down by 11.8% to MOP1.03 billion.

By place of origin, merchandise imports from the Chinese mainland (MOP27.95 billion) and the EU (MOP26.43 billion) fell by 1.8% and 5.7% respectively year-on-year in the first three quarters, while those from the Hong Kong SAR (MOP5.20 billion) increased by 7.0%. Analysed by place of consignment, merchandise imports from the Chinese mainland (MOP14.94 billion) and the Hong Kong SAR (MOP71.68 billion) decreased by 5.6% and 3.2% respectively year-on-year. In terms of commodity, imports of Consumer goods went down by 2.2% to MOP66.19 billion, of which imports of Garments & footwear (MOP8.71 billion) shrank by 6.5%, while imports of Gold jewellery (MOP8.41 billion) rose by 10.3%.

In September 2025, total merchandise exports grew by 11.7% year-on-year to MOP1.11 billion. Value of re-exports rose by 12.7% to MOP963 million, of which re-exports of Jewellery increased by 11.1%, while those of Garments slid by 24.2%. Value of domestic exports expanded by 5.1% to MOP144 million, of which domestic exports of Pharmaceutical products & organic chemicals rose by 8.0%. Meanwhile, total merchandise imports went up by 9.3% year-on-year to MOP11.32 billion; imports of Gold jewellery and Food & beverages showed respective growth of 62.0% and 16.0%, whereas imports of Handbags & wallets reduced by 10.9%. Merchandise trade deficit totalled MOP10.21 billion in September.

In the third quarter of 2025, total value of merchandise exports (MOP3.68 billion) rose by 5.4% year-on-year while that of merchandise imports (MOP31.27 billion) dropped by 0.2%. Merchandise trade deficit totalled MOP27.59 billion.
