Macao tops China's World Heritage List

The 26th World Heritage Committee has decided to list eight places on the World Heritage List. This decision was made during the meeting held on 24-29 June in Budapest, Hungary.

The Chinese delegation, headed by the representative of UNESCO in China, comprised members from different provinces. The Director of the Cultural Institute of the MSAR was also invited to attend the meeting.

The representative from Hungary was elected as the director of the 26th World Heritage Committee while the representative from China was elected as the vice-director.

During the meeting, the Committee decided to list eight sites from Egypt, Germany, Hungary, India, Italy and Mexico on the World Heritage List.

According to the agenda of the 26th World Heritage Committee meeting, Macao¡¦s historical sites topped China's World Heritage List. This list will be included in the application of World Heritage Sites in 2003 and is expected to be inscribed during the 28th World Heritage Committee held in 2004.

The 27th World Heritage Committee will be held in Suzhou, China, in June-July 2002.
