Chief Executive, Edmund Ho, reaffirmed to the EU representatives that MSAR Government is committed to the well being of Macao residents.
The Chief Executive attended a working lunch held by EC Office in Hong Kong, where he met with the consul-generals of all EU members in Hong Kong and Macao. The leaders not only confirmed their future commitments, but they also agreed upon long-term plans for the future.
"Macao has always enjoyed a special relationship with Europe, and we are confident that we will build a new bilateral relationship based on this strong foundation," Chief Executive Edmund Ho said today (10 May).
Edmund Ho praised the patience and understanding of the Macao people, and complimented them on their support for the government. He said, "After the financial crisis of 1997, the tragedy of September 11 in the United States, and global recession, people everywhere else had become impatient". Mr. Ho stressed that the "development of a society takes time and no government can achieve its goals without reasonable people and patience".
The Chief Executive also thanked the European Union for their support of the MSAR government, stressing that the government would continue to do whatever it could to maintain the good quality of life in Macao.
