Health Bureau official today (16 April) confirmed that a local resident was diagnosed with dengue fever after returning from a trip abroad.
This is the first case of dengue fever diagnosed in the SAR this year, said the Acting Director of the Health Bureau, Kun Sai Hoi in a press conference today.
The patient, who is a 17-year-old female, was infected during a trip out of the SAR between 20 March and 8 April, said Mr. Kun, adding that her condition was satisfying after receiving medical treatment in the hospital. He also said that the authority has proceeded with cleaning and disinfections in the patient's residence and neighboring area.
Measures against the spreading of dengue fever such as mosquito eradications and disinfections were continued this year by the authority in addition to constant monitoring on spreading of mosquitoes. Meanwhile, an awareness campaign is being commenced including a series of promotion to elevate the alert of the residents to the disease and the means of prevention.
